Keynote panel: How can we ensure that Europe doesn’t miss the boat on AI?
05 Mar 2025
Conference Room
Setting the scene, outlining challenges and priorities, and establishing a blueprint for powering AI in Europe
According to McKinsey Global Institute, ‘GenAI is expected to accelerate data centre power demand, potentially accounting for more than 5 percent of Europe’s total electricity consumption by 2030. Without competitive electricity prices, it becomes less likely that European data centres will host gen AI applications and services.’ In the last 24-36 months, less than 10% of LLM funding globally has taken place within Europe. This points to the disconnect on the AI opportunity between energy providers, policy makers and data centres when it comes to capitalising upon the opportunity. This session outlines the bottlenecks putting us at risk of missing out on the AI opportunity and proposes a blueprint for a more functional dialogue between energy providers, policy makers and data centres, and aims to answer what action are needed if we want to play a key role in the AI economy and have a stake in the game as a region.
