Keynote panel: Steps to improve dialogue and collaboration between data centres and European grids

06 Mar 2025
Conference Room
Data centres as responsible grid citizens, Developing the relationship between grid operators and data centres
Rapid location specific load growth from data centres is creating challenges for grid operators, leading to bottlenecks and moratoriums for data centres in connecting new facilities. With different planning horizons, how can grid operators and data centre operators, along with policy makers work more collaboratively to alleviate challenges? Areas to be discussed include a shift to 24/7 location specific procurement, better visibility on behind the meter deployments, more flexible demand, avoidance of load banking, improved forecasting of data centre power requirements, better understanding of grid planning processes and improved communication of transmission/distribution system upgrades. How can communication channels between the sectors best be set up and maintained? To what extent does policy need to play a role?
